Anthony Bourdain Returns to the Philippines

By Anonymous Paul on 27 April, 2016

To be honest, it’s a little difficult to watch. Bourdain touches on food but his “unfinished business” is really to show the world how Filipinos are as a people. Generous. Maybe even to a fault. And that’s a gross understatement.

Even though most segments feature Manila during Christmastime, there’s a certain melancholy that prevails. Happy. And sad. Bitter. And sweet. And I couldn’t help losing it at the end; when a Filipina nanny, who comes home after 30 years, sings Edelweiss.

Bless my homeland forever.

More than the food, it was a commentary on the country's current state. Sad.
