East meets West: A Photo Journey

By sanju on 21 May, 2011

Recently, I have been fortunate enough to visit two different food markets. Borough Market in South London and the Tong Hua Night Market in Taipei.

Borough Market is one of the busiest food markets in England.  It traces its roots all the way to the 13th century.  However its present premises were built in the 1800’s.  It is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Tong Hua Market on the other hand is one of Taipei’s smaller night markets.  I enjoy visiting it though, as it is easy to navigate through and, it is a brief walk from my usual hotel.  It is open 7 days a week from 5 PM till about midnight.

Both markets are a complete joy to visit and I highly recommend a visit to anyone who is interested in food.  Pay attention to the subtle nuances as well as the glaring contrasts that these two markets offer.
